Gniezno Asylum

Background

At the beginning of  December 1939 the Lange Kommando arrived in Gniezno asylum so called Dziekanka. Officially the patients from the asylum were transported to a unknown destination. In reality approximately 595 of them were killed in the gas vans between the 7th and 9 th of December 1939. In a second action between 8th and 12th January 1940 another approximately 448 patients were gassed and the bodies buried in the Nowaszyce forest near Gniezno.
